EndNote X9 for Mac

EndNote Tab in MS Word

An EndNote tab should display in MS Word 2016:

If it is not visible, please try the following steps:

  1. Make sure Word is closed
  2. Open EndNote and select the EndNote X9 Menu 
  3. Select Customizer
  4. Under Component list, tick the box beside Cite While You Write addin for Microsoft Word and Click Next
  5. Click Customize and then click Next
  6. Choose the version of Office displayed and click Next
  7. Click Done 

Inserting an EndNote Citation

  • Open a blank word document
  • Ensure the Style is set to your required style

  • To insert a Citation
    • Place your mouse cursor at a point in the text where you would like to insert a citation
    • Click on Insert Citation
    • Search for a reference (use the author or a keyword from the title)
    • Click on Insert

  • OR
    • Go to your EndNote library and highlight one or more references
    • Go back to Word and select the option Insert Selected Citation(s)

Removing an EndNote Citation

  • To remove a citation, click on the citation
  • Select Edit & Manage Citation(s)
  • Click on the drop down list to the right of the citation
  • Click on Remove Citation
  • Click OK
